Colo-Rectal Surgery

How do I prepare for my examination in the office?

No specific preparation is required for routine physical examination, including anoscopy. If sigmoidoscopy is scheduled, you need to take two FLEET enimas before coming to the office.

How do I prepare for my colonoscopy?

Bowel prep instructions will be provided by our office.

How long does it take to get my biopsy results?

Most biopsy results are available in 24-48 hours unless your Insurance/HMO requires the specimen to be sent to an outside participating lab. The doctor will call you as soon as the results are available.

I’ve noticed some blood in the stool after my surgery. Is this OK?

A small amount of bleeding is normal after many anal and colorectal procedures and this will be discussed with you prior to the procedure. If at any point the bleeding seems excessive, call the doctor.

How frequently should I be taking my Sitz Baths after surgery?

As a rule, three to four times per day AND after each bowel movement. The doctor will review this with you before and after the surgery.
