Robert Barbalinardo, MD FACS
Dr. Robert Barbalinardo graduated magna cum laude from the premed
program at Georgetown University in 1978. He then returned to his
home state to attend The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New
Jersey, earning the Doctor of Medicine degree in 1982. Dr. Rob completed his Surgical Residency under the supervision of Dr. Benjamin F. Rush at UMDNJ - New Jersey Medical School, including his
final year as Chief Surgical Resident in 1987.
Since entering the
private practice of surgery in 1987, Dr. Barbalinardo has continued
to advance surgical treatment in this (Essex County) community. He
initiated the stereotactic breast biopsy at St. Michael's Medical
Center, later bringing this skill to Mountainside Hospital as well.
His interest in colon and rectal surgery led to additional training
in an advanced form of surgical treatment for rectal cancer known as
Total Mesorectal Excision under the guidance of Dr Bill Heald, the
world wide authority on this technique. Dr Barbalinardo is one of few
general surgeons performing full colonoscopy, a procedure which
allows him to fully visualize any colorectal tumor prior to
embarking on surgical treatment. He also performs a full array of
laporoscopic techniques related both to general and colorectal
surgery.
Dr Barbalinardo is
certified by the American Board of Surgery and is also a Fellow of
the American College of Surgeons. He has been elected to represent
his colleagues at Mountainside Hospital in numerous capacities
including medical staff committees, the Medical Board, and his
current role as President of the Medical Staff at Mountainside
Hospital. In that capacity he also serves on the Board of Trustees
of the Atlantic Health System.
