OFFICE - MINOR
SURGICAL PROCEDURES
Many minor surgical
procedures can be done in the office on the patient’s initial visit.
 |
These
range from breast biopsies, excision of sebaceous cysts (wens) and
skin cancers to the drainage of abscesses and banding of
hemorrhoids. Such procedures are done under local anesthesia on
the ambulatory patient. However, in general, it is best if the
patient comes accompanied as he/she may be distracted driving an
automobile in anticipation of surgery or its aftermath. |
Here is a partial list
of procedures often done in the office:
Excision and
drainage of sebaceous cysts
Biopsies of breast,
skin or rectal lesions
Incision and
drainage of various abscesses
Banding of internal
hemorrhoids
Excision of skin
lesions - benign* and malignant
Avulsion of nails
for paronychia
*Please note that the
removal of benign skin lesions such as skin tags and keratoses are
considered of cosmetic concern only by insurance carriers and may not be
covered. In such cases the patient may wish to pay for their removal
directly. A fee schedule will be provided on request prior to surgery.
